I'm Susan!I grew up in West Lafayette, IN, and attended Purdue University, where I was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. My career started in promotions for the Greater Lafayette Museum of Art followed by Alumni Publications Director for Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis. I left higher education briefly to work in tourism as an advertising and promotions coordinator at a corporate Indy hotel. I then got my dream job as Assistant Editor with the Purdue Alumnus magazine and happily returned to West Lafayette. Four months after I began at Purdue, I met my God-given husband, Terry, and we were engaged within 4 months. I then did something I swore I would never do; I married a farmer! I don't like dirt, and I certainly don't like living near livestock manure. My life changed quite overnight, and suddenly I was writing about agriculture. Since then, I have written for numerous newspapers and agriculture magazines. I currently write for Indiana Prairie Farmer magazine where my monthly farm wife humor column, “Hayhurst’s Hayloft,” is featured.
Fast forward- I’m still living the farm life near Terre Haute, Indiana, and I thoroughly enjoy my church and small group bible study. My newest book, “Growing the Fruit of the Spirit: 100 Devotions for Farm Families,” was written with my dear friend and coauthor Beth Gormong. The book is available on Amazon or by scheduling Beth and me for an author fair or book chat. Terry and I have 2 daughters, Lillian and Hayley. Lillian loves being involved on the farm with her husband, Kegan, step-daughter Kaelynn, daughter Amelia, and son Isaiah, and cows and corgis. Hayley lives in London, works at a fabulous designer fabric business and loves traveling. Terry is also involved in church, has a weekly men’s group, and enjoys leading the farm, as well as many leadership organizations within agriculture. |
